The Future of GAAP – A Global
Perspective
International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) are coming
to Canada. By 2011, all publicly accountable companies,
public companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and
crown corporations will be required to report their financial
results using IFRS instead of Canada GAAP. Paul Pacter brings a global perspective to the following IFRS issues:
- Adoption of IFRS globally — benefits and problems
- IFRS is evolving at a fast pace — what changes are likely
in the next two to three years?
- The IFRS for small and medium-sized entities compared
to full IFRS?
- Possible use in Canada and USA.
Speaker: Paul Pacter
The Digital Office of Tomorrow
This session is designed for CGAs who are not information
technology (IT) experts, but who need to update their
knowledge level to serve their companies and/or clients more
efficiently and effectively. Alan Salmon will survey today’s
IT environment, as well as preview what’s coming. More
importantly, you will be exposed to significant trends in IT
and how to take advantage of the opportunities presented by
these trends.
Speaker: Alan Salmon
Turtle Training for the Hare: Why Slow ‘n’
Steady Trumps Fast ‘n’ Furious
The underlying message in the metaphor of the turtle versus
the hare is that building strength and sustainability in your
people will give you long-term victory in lasting leadership. If
your organization is going to be successful in today’s highlycompetitive
business world, then you need to look beyond the
day-to-day. In a positive and entertaining look at growth and
productivity, Merge offers specific and practical ideas to build
strength and sustainability in your people and your business.
Speaker: Merge Gupta-Sunderji, CGA

The Reality and Options for Family Business Succession
Privately run entrepreneurial owners view their businesses
as extensions of themselves, encompassing their vision and
passion. Succession planning is one of the most complex
issues these owners face. While many owners have had to
shift their focus towards business ‘survival mode’ due to
recent economic concerns, this session will show you that
those who can shift from ‘survival mode’ to ‘growth and
business succession mode’ will experience success and
achieve their strategic vision and succession plan.
Speakers: Fred Burke, FCGA and Doug Bruce
Personal Branding
Personal branding is a revolution in career management,
but it’s no longer just for career-minded individuals. In
today’s competitive marketplace, it’s a concept that is being
embraced by forward-thinking companies who understand
that their human capital is their greatest asset. With the lean
workforce of today, all employees need to perform at the top
of their game. Personal branding gives you the tools to do that
by helping unearth your unique value and develop a plan to
maximize the value in all that you do.
